Many audition notices come across my desk, and I filter out everything but the legitimate productions of Shakespeare’s works. I know that if you’re concerned with Memorize Shakespeare, you’re not as crazy about derived works. That means I don’t post Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged), I Hate Hamlet, and definitely not Guys and Dolls.
But sometimes I come across a show that catches my eye, and I have to let you know about it.
Manhattan Movement & Arts Center will host an Aerial Workshop. The Workshop will present Cirque du Romeo & Juliet, a theatrical circus production by former Cirque du Soleil performer, Ivo Gueorguiev. Acrobats and aerialists performing Romeo & Juliet. Will it be in mime or will the actors speak? Do they use the original text, or contemporary paraphrase? Sounds like a fun show no matter what choices they make, if they achieve the Cirque’s famous blend of physical prowess and amazing style.
